This piano was made in Stroud by the company of Woodchester whose pianos are some of the finest English instruments produced at the end of the last century. The Woodchester factory was originally the location of the Bentley Piano Company, who had been making pianos there since 1911. Unfortunately the Woodchester company, which arose from the ashes of Bentley's demise, only lasted a few years before competition from Asia meant that it became unviable - especially as they maintained traditional methods of manufacture which were very labour intensive. There were many operations that were carried out by hand and which required the trained and experienced eyes, ears and hands of expert craftsmen and women. The results were outstanding, as this piano demonstrates. It has a very deep, rich and full tone and an even, responsive touch. If the use of a third 'practice pedal' is not required, then this is an excellent choice as it is capable of a very wide range of dynamic and tone colour. It also benefits from a short prop stick to keep the lid open if required and very long music desk, which is a useful practical feature. A fine English piano that would suit players of all levels.
