This is a classic model of Welmar piano which has been well looked after and which is now reconditioned throughout and newly French polished in a satin black. The Welmar factory in Clapham Park Road made some of the best British pianos during the latter part of the last century and their compact A2 model was the most popular they produced, being the mainstay of the business for many years. In his book Five London Piano Makers (2010) Alastair Laurence writes in a chapter on the Welmar company: 'In spite of its quite modest height (3'7''), the 'A' has noticeably long tenor string speaking lengths on a suspended bridge, helping tonal clarity, and enabling the tuner to set a good temperament in the 'scale' area of the keyboard with ease. The bass section of this model is very satisfactory as well....'. This example is no exception and provides the player with a rich warm and sophisticated tone and medium touch. This is a high quality instrument from a renowned British piano manufacturer which is a pleasure to play.
