Woodchester pianos are some of the finest English instruments made at the end of the last century. The Woodchester factory in Stroud, Gloucestershire, was originally the location of the Bentley Piano Company, who had been making pianos there since 1911. Unfortunately the Woodchester company, which arose from the ashes Bentley's demise, only lasted a few years before competition from Asia meant that it became unviable - especially as they maintained traditional methods of manufacture which were labour intensive. There were many operations that were carried out by hand and which required the trained and experienced eyes, ears and hands of expert craftsmen and women. The results were superb, as this piano demonstrates. It has a wonderfully rich tone and an even, responsive touch which is provided by the high quality action. This piano is capable of a wide range of dynamic and tone colour and benefits from having short prop stick for the top lid if more sonority is required. The long music desk is a useful feature. In addition to all these great features it also has a Technics 'Silent' piano system fitted. A lever under the keyboard disables the acoustic function and the piano then becomes a digital piano that can be played with headphones on. There is a manual that comes with it that explains the record function and how the MIDI works etc. This is an excellent piano in all respects which will suit players of any level.
